More NFL Moves Impacting Fantasy

Continuing with this week's flurry of NFL player cuts and contracts affecting the 2009 fantasy football season.

Running Back -  San Diego Chargers
The Bolts locked up Darren Sproles for the 2009 season by applying the franchise tag.  According to GM AJ Smith, the Chargers made the move with the intention of keeping Sproles and not trading him.  If another team wants to still sign Sproles as a restricted free agent, it will cost them two #1 picks.  Needless to say, the shifty little dude from Kansas St will be coming back.  This helps protect Philip Rivers' place amongst the fantasy elite, as Spoles gets a ton of yards snagging high-impact screens out of the backfield.  Less optimistic is the plight of LaDanian Tomlinson, who not only can expect a re-structured contract but also reduced playing time.

Wide Receiver -  Indianapolis Colts
According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, the Colts intend to release future hall of famer, Marvin Harrison.  After battling health and legal problems over the past couple of years (not to mention father time), Indy appears to be ready to move on without one of their greatest players ever.  Despite Harrison's stature, we at FanTIP don't expect there to be much impact as Marvin simply hadn't been producing much recently.  If anything, this might ensure that IND gets an improvement to replace him.  More on this to come.

Team Defense -  Tennessee Titans
It's close to official--the Titans are going to be moving on without all-word beast, DT Albert Haynesworth.  Argueablly the best defender in the league over the past two years, Haynesworth should rake it in as many teams are positioned to open up a bank in his honor--most notably the Tampa Bay Bucs.  The move from TEN takes their defensive prospects down quite a bit.  They're still going to be a strong defensive team but Haynesworth was the main cog in that wheel.  And wherever Haynesworth eventually signs is probably good for moving that Team D up about 5-8 slots in the rankings.  He's that good.
